Murdoch Developmental Center, located in Butner, North Carolina is one of three state operated developmental centers, primarily serving 25 counties of the Central Region. Murdoch provides services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), complex behavioral challenges and/or medical conditions whose clinical treatment needs cannot be supported in the community. Murdoch operates four specialty programs including children and adolescents programs, available for individuals residing in all regions of the state. Murdoch Developmental Center is part of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Vocational Enterprises is a part of Murdoch Developmental Center. We provide jobs and training for the people living at Murdoch Developmental Center. We offer Work Center opportunities (shredding confidential documents, packaging supplies for campus, etc), Supported Community Employment, the Handicrafts Program (paid opportunities to make crafts for sale in our store - VE Originals), Soap packaging and laundry program, a mobile cleaning crew for living units on campus, and more.
